Ime Udoka was definitely one of the best coaches in the entire NBA last season. Overall, in just his first season with the Celtics, he was able to take his team all the way to the NBA Finals. In the end, the Celtics were unable to get it done, although they were two games away from winning it all. Subsequently, Udoka was embroiled in a massive controversy. According to reports, he had a relationship with someone who worked for the team. Moreover, he was clowned on social media as he basically got called out for cheating on Nia Long.
Udoka was consequently suspended by the Celtics for an entire year. Since then, the Celtics have hired his replacement on a full-time basis. This basically means that Udoka is no longer with the team. However, throughout the year, there has been interest from other teams in regard to Udoka. In fact, one Eastern Conference team who just fired their head coach seems to be one of the more likely suitors to land Udoka. Albeit, a lot has to be worked out first.
Ime Udoka To The Hawks?
That team is none other than the Atlanta Hawks. According to Marc Stein, the team just fired Nate McMillan, and Udoka is someone who could certainly fill in for that role. He did a great job with a young Celtics team, and the even younger Hawks could benefit from his direction. However, it seems like Udoka isn't their frontrunner, at least for right now. Earlier today, the team met with former Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder. Snyder is another name that has been floating around, with plenty of teams showing interest.
At this point, Udoka's NBA future remains up in the air. However, there are still a lot of teams out there who will need coaches come the offseason. When that time comes, we're sure he will get plenty more looks. Although his reputation is damaged, for many of these teams, results are what comes first.
