Kendrick Lamar has been outspoken before on his thoughts on voting and politics, and as the election campaigns are soon rapping up, Kendrick was asked about voting once more. In the past he's received criticism against the fact that he's said he doesn't vote, but it sounds like this year he will be.
While talking to MTV News about the upcoming election, K. Dot expresses his wishes for young voters not to just sit back on election day.
He explains how we tend to put important issues in the hands of political leaders, instead of taking the issues on ourselves. "I think we tend to put [issues] in the hands of higher politics rather than do for ourselves," Kendrick said. "So what made me the most angry is, when something doesn't go right in that world, you get people out here that want to blame Obama. And I think that's corny."
He went on to call this one of our biggest failures, "I think that's one of our biggest failures as a community, as a generation; not wanting to go out and do for ourselves and to sit back and wait," Lamar continued. "And then when it doesn't happen, we point the finger. I think we just really need to take matters into our own hands; uplift our community, put money back in our community, and show these kids how there's something different."
And although Kendrick may have not voted in the past, it seems this November 6th he will be heading to the booths, making sure to give Barack Obama his vote. "I think I'm going to go ahead [and vote for Barack Obama], just because I cannot see Mitt Romney [winning]," Kendrick said while laughing. "I'll be on food stamps my whole life! I just don't feel like he's got a good heart at all."
