Kyrie Irving is one of the best point guards in the entire NBA. However, showing up to play basketball has been a bit of an issue for him. During his time with the Brooklyn Nets, he was typically absent for long stretches. Overall, the Nets became upset with Irving, and eventually, the entire relationship was fractured. If you are a fan of Kyrie's, it was probably tough to watch, and for Nets fans, it's been even worse. Consequently, Irving asked the team for a trade, and the Nets capitulated.
Kyrie is now a member of the Dallas Mavericks. This was a gutsy trade by the Mavericks as it could end up being a disaster. Although, Mark Cuban seems very excited about this new opportunity. He understands that Kyrie can help Luka Doncic win games, and it will be fun to watch them in action. Moreover, Kyrie was in Dallas today as he completed his first practice with the team. Additionally, he also spoke to the media for the very first time.
Kyrie Speaks
During his talks with the media, Irving made some very interesting comments. In fact, he even spoke about his time in Brooklyn and how the franchise made him feel disrespected. For Irving, the team didn't keep it about basketball, and he took issue with that. "There were times throughout this process when I was in Brooklyn where I felt disrespected," Kyrie said. "I work extremely hard at what I do but no one talks about my work ethic. Everyone talks about what I'm doing off the floor." Subsequently, Kyrie was asked about LeBron's desire to have him on the Lakers. As one can imagine, Irving was quite flattered.
Moving forward, Irving will need to be on his best behavior with the Mavericks, If he isn't, then there could be some serious issues for him in the Summer when he seeks a long-term deal. Overall, he can't afford to mess this up. If he does, he may never get another max contract again.
