Overall, the Lakers have been a hit-or-miss team this season. They currently have a record of 25-28, which puts them 12th in the Western Conference. However, despite the poor record, they are somehow just a few games away from becoming the sixth-place team in the West. Needless to say, the team just needs one long win streak in order to break through. It won't be easy, although with LeBron James and Anthony Davis playing on a new level, it is certainly possible.
Additionally, the NBA trade deadline is in about six days from now. The Lakers are one of those teams that are expected to at least try and make a big move. For months, the Lakers have been trying to move some of their pieces, to no avail. Guys like Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley are both expected to be on the trading block. While that sounds like a great negotiating chip, it hasn't led to much for the purple and gold.
Lakers Taking Calls
According to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, the Lakers have been having some discussions about Westbrook. As it turns out, these discussions have been with the likes of the Utah Jazz. Overall, Utah is a team that is trying to rebuild, while the Lakers want to win now. Moreover, the Lakers have two draft picks that the Jazz would love to own. Trading Westbrook to Utah as a rental could very well pay off. However, it remains to be seen who the Lakers would get in return. Given the price, it would have to be a pretty significant haul.
Either way, the Lakers have about a week to really think all of this through. They understand that teams will overcharge them, and they simply need to navigate that reality. However, if the team can marginally get better, then that could be all they need in order to make the postseason. Let us know what you think the Lakers should do, in the comments below.
