It’s been a minute since we last heard from rising Brampton artist TOBi. In fact, it was back in December of 2016 when he last dropped off the single “Libra,” but thankfully that changes here today. With a new project currently in the works, the FYi artist decides to come through today and give us the green light to premiere a new song called “Hidden Fences,” which will NOT see life on the upcoming album, but rather serve as an appetizer to hold us over. However, look for the song to be featured in the upcoming season finale of HBO’s hit series "Insecure" this Sunday night (similar to how Miguel’s “Sky Walker” roll out went last week).
“I wrote ‘Hidden Fences’ over a year ago, originally as a poem ripping on certain trends happening in North American cities.” TOBi said in an email. “The goal was to juxtapose the theme of gentrification against a funky melody. Since then, I’ve written and recorded so much music that I never really intended to put this out. I spent weeks in L.A. working on a new project; all my energy went into that. One day, randomly, I found out that the music supervisor from Insecure, Kier Lehman, had heard the song and wanted to use it in this year’s season finale. It felt really fortuitous—one of my unreleased songs in a show so rooted in L.A. to lead up to all the music I’d been recording in L.A. All these steps are part of my journey with music, exploring new ideas and places as I play around with the boundaries of my sound. Really excited to share what’s next.”
Take a listen to the classical & groovy new record and let us know what you think. If you’re a fan, be sure to hit TOBi with a follow on Twitter @TOBIAJI_ for all his latest news and music updates.
Look for more from TOBi, including the first single off his upcoming project, to be dropping within the next few weeks. Stay tuned, he's "coming for all heads."

But not the side that’s been gentrified
