PnB Rock is one of the more unique-sounding rappers in the game right now, blending trippy, psychedelic production with a measured, cooler lyrical delivery. His video for the track "Heart Racin'" is a good example of the controlled chaos that seems to permeate most of his music. Now, he has joined for with Kur for a new track titled "Not Today" and borrows not only from PnB's previous work, but also from a familiar face or two to make a moodier, meatier song than we've seen from either emcee as of late.
The laid-back rhyming style of PnB on this record is reminiscent if NAV's recent offerings that came from his collaboration with Metro Boomin', although this track feels more dynamic and arguably more urgent, or present in the moment. The real scene-stealer is Kur, who comes out with a speedy delivery that threatens to travel at a faster speed than the song can handle. Eventually, he settles into a nice groove and manages to spit some flaming hot bars before the end of the record. It's an approach that showcases how opposites can and do attract attention from even the most casual of fans, with Kur's frenetic pace meshing well with PnB's cool, calculated stance behind the mic. It's not necessarily the case of one being better than the other, but Kur certainly has the more eye-catching role on this new track.
The Philadelphia native has also been making some headway in the hip-hop's crowded marketplace thus far in 2017. His song "What Do It Do," which boasts some sun-soaked visuals to go along with a similarly fast-paced piece of sonic work, Kur looks to have a bright future ahead of him. More collaborations with PnB-level names will go a long way into drawing more attention to this up-and-coming emcee.
