You may know Dougie F. from "Homegirl," his recent collaboration with XXL Freshman cover star Kyle that has taken off on SoundCloud. While "Homegirl" was bright and poppy, Dougie's new track "Still Standing" is a little darker and heavier, though the hooks and personality are as strong as ever. A Devin Cruise beat sets the tone, at times driven by skittering high hats, but also brought down to a skeletal synth line at times. Even when the drums are pulled out, Dougie's strong hook shines through.
The New Jersey rapper is currently prepping the release of his Yellow Durag project, which "Still Standing" will appear. Previously we've heard the versatile Dougie on tracks like "Half" and "Buck 50".
New Jersey has recently spawned a star in Fetty Wap, and has many other rising artists on the horizon. Earlier this year, we introduced you to 5 artists from the region to keep your eye on, including Topaz Jones and Mir Fontane. You can read it here. Based on his last few released you should add Dougie F. to that list of New Jersey rappers to keep an eye on. Does he have the potential to be the next big thing from NJ? Let us know in the comments below.
Perhaps next year Dougie F could join his collaborator Kyle as a rapper on the XXL Freshman list. The two linked when Dougie was attempting to find the right match fo rhis sunny single "Homegirl. "I was tryna figure out who would fit the record and sent it right to Kyle. We eventually were both in L.A. and locked in a session at his studio and knocked it out," he told Complex.
Look out for more from Dougie F., including his Yellow Durag project in the near future.
Quotable Lyrics:
They just wanna see a n*gga fall
I'm still standing
Even when they though I took a loss
I'm still standing
Spreading all the rumors when they false
I'm still standing
Goin' up, they trynna push me off
