Last Friday, Kodie Shane dropped her debut EP Back From The Future, and the Lil Yachty cohort has been doing the Sailing Team proud. While Yachty has elevated into a near-superstar, it's cool to see some of his crew continue to carve out their own original niche. And while Kodie Shane does share a similar vibe to Lil Boat, her heavy drawl and versatile melodies help elevate her from the pack. In fact, her EP featured no guest appearances, leaving Kodie to make an impression without outside assistance.
Now, it would appear that Kodie Shane has more to share with ya'll. The Atlanta emcee recently shared what looks like an album leftover in the form of a track called "Start A Riot." What's strange is that the Greystonepark produced track would have been a project highlight, had she decided to include it on Back From The Future. The upbeat banger finds Kodie going full on melodic over an upbeat tropical beat, and her vocal range shines as she delivers some braggadocio-laden bars.
While the track does lack a clear structure, there are enough catchy moments and strong vocals to keep listeners entertained for the near-three minute run time. In fact, it's one of my favorite Kodie Shane tracks I've heard thus far, and a strong indicator that she might shine on some more pop-leaning, commercial radio joints. Overall, it's a strong effort from Kodie, who has shown a high level of promise throughout her young career. Hopefully she can pick up where "Start A Riot" left off and continue to explore a more melodic future.
