The Metro Boomin-produced banger that inspired a viral challenge has just gone gold. The Recording Industry Association of America confirmed that on March 30, Future's "Mask Off" had sold at least 500,000 units.
One of the most memorable songs off the Future LP, "Mask Off" dropped on February 17. Metro Boomin sampled the oldie "Prison Song." Composed by Tommy Butler, the track features in the 1976 musical Selma, inspired by the life and times of Martin Luther King, Jr.
The hallmark flutes even sparked the #MaskOffChallenge, where musicians record themselves trying their best rendition of the melody. They then post the clips online. Dancers have also jumped on the viral hit.
Both Future and HNDRXX earned back-to-back number 1 debuts in successive weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, an unprecedented feat. Only The Beatles, Herb Alpert and The Monkees have managed to replace themselves at the top spot.
