SZA announced CTRL, her long-awaited follow-up to Z, just before taking the stage to perform her new single "Drew Barrymore" on Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday night. While we heard the studio mix of the track following its release on Apple Music, the performance has now made its way online, featuring a similar arrangement performed by a live band.
The performance was the first time SZA had appeared on late night TV. She previously performed some new material at an intimate show in New York earlier this week, including a collaboration with Travis Scott. Last year, SZA experienced tension with her label over the delay of her album, which led to her threatening to quit music in October.
CTRL is still without an official release date, but is expected to be released later this year. It will feature both "Drew Barrymore" and "twoAM," a rework of PartyNextDoor single "Come and See Me."
