4D?

Sneaker brands have been experimenting with 3D-printed soles for quite some time and now Adidas is finally ready to unveil the next form of innovative footwear- the Adidas Futurecraft 4D.

Adidas partnered up with Silicon Valley-based tech company Carbon to create a shoe built with "light and oxygen through a process called Digital Light Synthesis."

So what is Digital Light Synthesis?

According to Carbon, Digital Light Synthesis is a breakthrough process that uses digital light projection, oxygen-permeable optics, and programmable liquid resins to generate durable products, such as the the Futurecraft 4D.

300 pairs of the Futurecraft 4D will release to Adidas' "Friends & Family" followed by a release of 5,000 pairs this Fall/Winter season.

By the end of 2018, Adidas reportedly plans on producing more than 100,000 pairs of shoes using Digital Light Synthesis technology.
