According to the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), there are plans to give The Notorious B.I.G. his proper due.
The greatest of hip-hop legends will be honored at the 30th Annual Rhythm And Soul Music Awards on June 22nd, where the Brooklyn native will be posthumously awarded with a Founders Award for his contribution to music as one of the genres pioneer. It is the ASCAP’s most prestigious award. Previous recipients of the Founders Award include Dr. Dre, Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jermaine Dupri.
ASCAP President Paul Williams on Biggie Smalls, who was tragically murdered in 1997: "Biggie was a legend in his own time and his legacy lives on through his music. Like all songwriters, he was a master storyteller, but it was the realism in his rhymes that captured so many."
The award will be accepted by the late emcee's mother Voletta Wallace, widow Faith Evans, his children, former managers, and estate consultants Wayne Barrow and Mark Pitts. It will be a fitting tribute to a singular figure in the history of rap.
