Earlier today, Lil Yachty's Sailing Team member, Kodie Shane released her highly anticipated EP Back From The Future. The Atlanta rapper/singer has taken a page out of Yachty's book and built her own sound off of it. Using auto-tune as a catalyst to her unique voice, she stretches it in every direction across the beats on the project. It's a signature sound that sets herself apart from many other of her bubbling contemporaries. A great example of that is on the stand-out track on Back From The Future, "Runway."
On "Runway", Kodie Shane is flexing on everyone while she lists off all the different kinds of designer clothes that she's about to put her girl in. As she wails on the hook "On a runway, I just put my girl in some fashion clothes," over a really smooth synth and a knocking bass, it'll make you want to stick your head out the window and sing a long. While the beat bangs, Shane's vocals make this song a contender as her breakthrough joint. Her vocals sound like a healthy balance between Young Thug and Lil Yachty with her own spin on it.
Shane bounces back and forth between her vocal tones on this track, using the heavy drop of the hook to push the power of her vocals to the forefront of the song whereas she raps in a softer tone on the verse. The verses blends in with the production almost as another sound to the beat. Back From The Future has some hits on their but this one stands-out. The song last less than two minutes so Kodie comes in sweet, simple and to the point.
While the EP just got released today, hopefully this video ends up getting some sort of video to accompany it. It's a song that has the potential to bring Kodie Shane to the level that she deserves to be at.
