While Jazz Cartier has been holed up in the studio prepping his major label debut, Fleurever, which will release through Capital Records, we've been treated to some new music -- that may have been recorded over a year ago -- as part of Redbull's Sound Select series. For the series, Redbull paired up Jazz Cartier with Atlanta staple Mike WiLL Made It for two collaborations. The first debuted last week, a night-time banger directed towards the ladies, to prepare them for turnt evening with pre-going out bedroom rituals ("Nobody's Watching").
This week Redbull returns with their second offering, which features New York-raised but LA-based rapper Ro Ransom-- these two previously collaborated as well on Ro's own single "Prettiest," and the chemistry is evident again. "Make A Mess" definitely feels like a sister track to "Nobody's Watching," with a menacing, dark vibe provided by Mike WiLL, while Ro occupies the first verse of the record, with an exaggerated flow and savage lyrics. Jazz's own vocals are layered on the hook, with pounding bass and distorted, muffled sirens.
Jazz says of Ro in a RBSS press release: "I’ve always been a fan of him. I think he’s one of the most talented people I’ve ever met in my life. I’m just happy he’s a part of the story." He adds that both of these new records are "cool vibes that stemmed from me and Mike's recording session in LA a while back. Happy they're finally out, a little something for my fans until Fleurever comes."
Are these new records from the Prince of the City enough to get you excited for Fleurever? The lead single from the album is the T-Minus-produced "Tempted," which dropped all the way back in January. Stay tuned for more music off the album, and hopefully, a release date soon enough.
Quotable Lyrics
My baby mama she be tripping lately
Caught me slippin a different lady
Sat em down and told em get acquainted
I ran a three, I instigated
How you doin? How you livin?
I make a mess, I make a million
