Dom Kennedy and Hit-Boy have reunited as Half-A-Mil, sharing their third collaborative project earlier this week. On "Don't Run," they also bring the very prolific 24hrs into the mix. Knowing that 24hrs has his own joint project with Hit-Boy in the works, it all makes sense, and the various connections between the performers make for an audible chemistry. The production is certainly R&B-influenced, but the track is not as melodically-inclined as you might expect, keeping the tempo up and the energy rap-focused. EP3, the new project from the duo also features a pair of guest appearances from Quentin Miller, as well as one from BC.
The icy track speaks to Hit-Boy's wisdom behind the boards. Always bringing a jarring futurism to his beats, Hit-Boy has worked with the biggest names in the business, whether it be on Kanye West and Jay-Z's "N***as in Paris," Nicki Minaj and Beyonce's "Feelin' Myself," or Rihanna's "Pose." At the same time, he's always made an effort to develop newer or more underappreciated artists, and EP3 is a shining example of what he does best when he gets in with some like-minded, hard-working collaborators.
Quotable Lyrics:
These days I can't complain much
It's just I always say the same stuff
You the type that I'm only gonna
Get to blaze once
Layin' all up in the crib like a day one
When she introduced me to her friend
I'm like say huh?
