Marshmello is quickly establishing himself as one of the strongest new forces in EDM. The masked DJ who wears -- you guessed it -- a big-ass marshmallow on his head has teamed up with promising young singer Khalid on his new single "Silence." The 19-year-old released his debut album American Teen earlier this year, and brings the soulful, emotional voice we heard across the project to the EDM stage on the new single. The result is one of the most radio-ready moments we've heard from either artist. The verses are paired down with melancholic piano chords, only breaking into full arena-ready euphoria on the hook, but when it hits, it's hard to get out of your head.
Khalid earned his first platinum single with "Location," a track that peaked at No. 16 on the Hot 100 earlier this year. He recently appeared in Charli XCX's video for "Boys," which turned its lens on a number of men in the industry as the subject of daydreams. If you're looking to learn more about the El Paso singer, check out our recent Who Is Khalid? feature here. You're going to hear anything but "silence" from him in the near future.
Quotable Lyrics:
Yeah, I'd rather be a lover than a fighter
'Cause all my life, I've been fighting
Never felt a feeling of comfort
All this time, I've been hiding
And I never had someone to call my own
I'm so used to sharing
Love only left me alone
But I'm at one with the silence
Silence
