Lil Durk and Lil Reese were two names brought up in every conversation about Chicago drill back in 2012, and 5 years later, they've grown as songwriters while maintaining their early appeal. On Friday, the two rappers shared Supa Vultures, a 6-song collaborative EP that plays to their strengths as a duo. Durk supplies the melodic quotient throughout, while Reese shows his knack for flows (his early material gave way to the popular rhythm Future used on "Karate Chop"). "Unstoppable" features a lush, melancholic beat from Chopsquad, which compliments Durk's emotional hook.
The two recently released a video for "Distance," the opening track from the collection, which has gained some regional buzz. While the two rappers have each earned a number of singles that have impacted outside their city, their influence has often outweighed their chart presence. "Distance" could very well be the single that brings the rappers to a wider audience. As fellow Chicagoans G Herbo and Lil Bibby proved on their early material, sometimes making use of the duo dynamic can lead to greater solo success in the long run.
The full Supa Vultures project can be streamed via SoundCloud here. Both Lil Durk's solo effort Love Songs For The Streets and Lil Reese's album Better Days were released in February. Watch the video for "Distance," which is quickly climbing its way to a million views, below.
