Lil Blast is 17-year-old rapper out of Houston, Texas. He's built some buzz in the city after his family was moved out of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. On his new submission "$mith N We$$on," he fits in well with the wave of artists often categorized as 'SoundCloud rap.' The punchy, ethereal beat from Leanbwoy and Endoh isn't all that far off from something Pi'erre Bourne would serve up, and it's deceptively complex and catchy. Blast's performance matches the energy of the beat quite well, as he finds unconventional pockets in the instrumental and double tracks his vocals to great effect. He's already amassed a few thousand plays on the track on SoundCloud, and if he keeps pumping out music this strong, he could be looking at a lot more in the future.
