I'll admit, I'm pretty amendable to anything that shouts out the ultimate symbol of nostalgic entertainment, the Nintendo 64. In Derin Falana's latest joint "N64," the Toronto rapper celebrates the classic console over some futuristic production from Lucidox & Po. The beat is a hazy, arpeggiated journey like something out a nightmarish mobile game, and Falana keeps within theme by filling his bars with Nintendo references.
"N64" finds Falana developing his sound, keeping loyal to the classic Toronto sound while still managing to carve out his own lane. It's a nice addition to the up-and-comers catalog, and I look forward to the inevitable follow-up mixtape.
