2 Chainz wants to ease up on doing lots of features on hip hop tracks, but is open to features in other genres of music.

2 Chainz is becoming synonymous with features, after jumping on a track with some of the biggest names in the business.  In a recent interview however, Tity Boi says he has accomplished what he set out to do with all the guest features, and now plans to not make as many.

In an interview with CBS Local he said (from HipHopDX) “My whole theory behind doing guest features was to remain hot in the street…actually being a part of everyone’s google. When you google them, my name would pop up."

One of his most notable features wasn’t even for a rapper, but for pop super-sensation Justin Bieber, for the track “Boyfriend”.  2 Chainz said he enjoyed the change of pace dropping a “clean” feature gave him, saying “The challenge was doing a clean witty verse without cursing, and to know the fan base and the crowd I was catering to. It was fun. I would love to do more records like that.”

To continue growing his name, the rapper says he wants to do less hip hop features, but is open to features, like the Justin Bieber song, that is outside his genre.  “Now it’s about doing features that matter or can help catapult my campaign or doesn’t make sense any more,” 2 Chainz said, and added, “A feature that’s worth me doing would be something that’s outside my genre, something outside my comfort level, outside my box. Pop rock, R&B. Something that’s not a normal 16 [lines] that I feel like I can do ion my sleep.”

His debut album Based on a T.R.U. Story drops August 14th.
