In our 2016 cover story with Makonnen, the Atlanta rapper seemed to be most in his element when he was mid-freestyle. Whether spitting some off-the-dome bars for his fans on Snapchat or hitting 'record' in the studio, Makonnen has been known to black out for upwards of 10 minutes on songs. With "Line 2," he's given us yet another "one take" freestyle, and it's a surprisingly structured recording. Complete with a catchy hook many rappers would struggle to write given an extended period of time, Makonnen proves that sometimes your best idea is your first idea.

The rapper's caption on the SC release reminds us that he's a student of Lil B, not only musically, but philosophically. "Motivational music for ILOVEMAKONNEN fans," he writes. "Congratulations to everyone graduating in 2017. Hope you have a safe fun summer!"
