Take It Back

This is Logic's story.

In some ways, "Take It Back" feels like the thesis statement of Logic's latest album Everybody. The album's original title AfricAryaN reveals much about the dominant themes, which appear to have carried over on Everybody. "Take It Back" is one of the most overt examples of autobiography, and Logic takes to the up-tempo beat with a passionate fury. With heavy lyrics invoking slavery and plantations, Logic breaks down his story from the beginning.

With one of the hottest beats on the album, "Take It Back" channels the Kanye West track "Last Call," in which the majority of the track features a spoken word story. While the lengthy outro speech may annoy some, Logic's gift as a storyteller keeps the biopic-style saga interesting, while further solidifying the album's examination of identity.

Quotable Lyrics

Everybody wanna tell me what I am, what I am not
You ain't black, you a mothafuckin white boy
Shut ya mouth, do it right boy, aight boy?
Man why you such a hype boy?
Why you always talk about being black?
Skin too white, nigga fuck that
Everything you talk about, cut that
