grey is Kweku Collins' follow-up to 2016's masterful Nat Love, and it finds him further experimenting with both vocals, production and genre. On "Aya," he's joined by Allan Kingdom, another rapper who's never been someone to box himself in. Despite its unconventional sound, it's actually one of the songs that leans closer to rap, which shows how far Kweku is willing to take his vision. Loose drums, swelling keys and echoing reverb give the song its vast backdrop, while Kweku manipulates his voice with auto-tune on the hook and slips between rapping and singing throughout. When Kingdom enters, he's similarly eager to bring all his vocal ideas to the table, doubling his skipping baritone with nimble falsetto.
