7 years after the release of Plastic Beach and its companion piece The Fall, the Damon Albarn-helmed cartoon band known as Gorillaz have returned with their fifth studio album Humanz. Albarn is less of a vocal presence across the album, and there are more guests than ever. One of the most notable tracks recruits R&B dreamer Kelela and rap experimentalist Danny Brown. The song, titled "Submission," is driven by Kelela's vocal performance, in which she delivers a confident, housey belter of a hook, which is complimented by a pulsating synth. When Danny enters with his nasal snarl, some noisy guitar noodling comes further into focus. By the last hook, Kelela's chorus is fleshed out with a haunting choir behind her.

Quotable Lyrics:
Wish I could think of better ways
'Cause I lost my patience yesterday
If you could see inside of me
There'd be no heart on my X-ray
Opponents tryna checkmate
But I don't see no escape
Just tryna keep my head straight
On thin ice with the ice skates
Submission
