Veteran producer J. Period has recruited a cast of distinguished veterans to assist him on his new anthemic, politically-charged single "RISE UP!." The song features verses from Black Thought, Pharoahe Monch, and Posdnuos of De La Soul, as well as vocals from Joss Stone and clips from archived speeches by Martin Luther King, Jr. and John F. Kennedy.
"“These are turbulent times in America, with protests and marches spilling out into the streets in record numbers, and activism on the rise,” J. Period told Rolling Stone “‘Rise Up’ was born out of that same energy."
He added the that the song “aims to remind us of the higher ideals we’re fighting for when we call for justice: unity, equality, diversity, empathy.”
RISE UP EP will be available on May 2.
Quotable Lyrics
Rise to power or fall from grace
The often cases, our heads are lost in the clouds, or we're lost in space
Citizens of the divided states
Identify with hatred
For our demise, they watch and wait
