Toronto rappers Jay Whiss and Jimmy Prime have been known to work together regularly. Today, they've shared yet another collaboration which pairs them with Fort Eerie wunderkind producer Murda Beatz. "Cheat Day" is a dreamy, melodic track, built off of swelling synth sounds and sparing drum clatters. Jay's vocals gently reverberate over the gradually rising bassline, as he creates a call-and-response choir of his own vocals on the hook. Meanwhile, Jimmy enters with dripping auto-tune, adding a punchy and rhythmic contrast to Jay's pop-minded songwriting.
"I've been up to something," sings Whiss, suggesting that he's got a bigger plan that he's not quite ready to reveal just yet. "These diamonds ain't for nothing."
