After earning a gold single with "Moolah" through Quality Control Music, Young Greatness is moving to the Cash Money team. Born and raised in New Orleans, Greatness feels he's a good fit for the long-running label, which he explained in an interview with HipHopDX.
"It was already genetically there," he said of Cash Money. "One of my cousins worked for Mannie Fresh when I was a kid."
Following the success of his single, the label opened up a dialogue with the rapper. "Slim reached out before Baby and wanted to talk to me about my situation," Greatness recalls. "I was actually still on Quality Control at the time. They were willing to work with them to go further considering the fact that I was from New Orleans. They just wanted to see somebody from the city win."
Greatness also insists that his departure from QC, which is also the home of Migos and Lil Yachty, is an amicable one. "There’s no ill will between me, Coach K and P so let’s just clear that out," he said. "As a label on a whole, it’s an excellent label to be on."
No word on when we'll hear Greatness' first Cash Money release. He released his I Tried To Tell Em 2 mixtape last July. Read our 2016 interview with Young Greatness, in which he discusses the melodic power of New Orleans rap, here.
