In the last quarter of 2016, r'n'b duo THEY., comprised of singer Drew Love and producer Dante, delivered several stellar loose leaks as they teased their official debut album, HYENA, which will follow up their Nu Religion EP. Among those leaks, we received a Nirvana cover, which was perfect territory for the genre-pushing duo, as they often incorporate rock vibes into their production, and have a general punk aesthetic.
Today we get to hear the first official single from HYENA, "U-RITE," and it may be their most intricate and creative record yet. Drew is singing the hook and humming back-and-forth to himself, while the beat oscillates between a blow horn noise and sharp drum patterns. Towards the end, you may be surprised by the little song breakdown, which leads into some dark piano keys before finishing off with one last blow horn.
Take a listen to the exciting record, which you can cop on iTunes. Stay tuned for details on THEY.'s debut album.
