Listen to a funky new serenade from James Fauntleroy: "Fell in Love."

When he's not busy writing lyrics for Rihanna or lending vocals to Kendrick Lamar, James Fauntleroy stays busy putting out his own adventurous funk and R&B songs and sketches. Every month or so, and sometimes more frequently, he shares new material on his SoundCloud. Whether unfinished or fully mastered, the songs always show off his skills as a songwriter and producer. His latest, "Fell in Love," is a throwback funk jam with hints of early electro. With light guitar and a subdued bassline, it's wonderfully smooth while still being full of deep grooves. As part of the L.A. collective 1500 or Nothin', Fauntleroy has brought his expansive knowledge of funk, jazz, and R&B into hip-hop. It's fascinating to hear the type of songs he likes to create on his own.

"Fell in Love" is Fauntleroy's first new material since he appeared on a surprising collaboration with Lil Durk and Talib Kweli called "Eyes," which you can listen to here

Quotable Lyrics

Naw I dont remember shit come to think of it...
I was high
And I don't even give a shit
Girl you're my alibi
