In January, British rapper Wiley will release Godfather, a reference to his sobriquet "The Godfather of Grime." Last night, he debuted a song from the album called "U Were Always Part 2" on Julie Adenuga's Beats 1 radio show.
A reflection on a relationship gone sour, "U Were Always Part 2" features appearances from fellow grime heavyweight Skepta and Toronto's Belly. Bell-heavy electric piano and a rich bass line give the track the feeling of a '90s R&B song. Give it a listen and watch Wiley's new video for "Holy Grime" featuring Devlin below.
Quotable Lyrics
If I told you before, still would have got mad though
I know you don't want drama, you don't want agro
I still can't work out why you caused a big scene in Nando's,
We had a good ting going on, but that's how that goes
