Solange's melancholy "Cranes in the Sky" has inspired remixes by Common, Kaytranada, and Styles P. This morning, Rick Ross released a version of the song with a new verse appended to the beginning.
"Cranes in the Sky" is about Solange's struggle to cope with depression. It is spare and wrought with pathos. Rick Ross' verse is nothing like that. Like most of Rozay's music, it is an ode to sex and excess that fits well within Raphael Saadiq's stirring, string-driven production, if not the themes Solange addresses.
How does the Rozay remix stand up against the original?
