Ohio State may have pulled out a huge win against Michigan in football over the weekend, but celebration has sadly been cut short. Shortly before 10am EST, the Ohio State Emergency Management Twitter account tweeted that there was an “active shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight.” The shooting reportedly took place in the north section of Ohio State’s campus.
After 11am the lockdown was lifted, although classes will remain canceled. 9 people were taken to the hospital during the crisis, with one in critical condition. There has been no news on the identities of the victims or the shooter, although the shooter has been reported dead by multiple outlets.
Students reacted in various ways, posting to social media to ensure friends they are safe and even barricading themselves inside of classrooms. We will update as the stories progress. One Instagram post alleges a student was the attacker, but that report has yet to be confirmed.
UPDATE
University officials have clarified that the attacker drove his car into a crowd of people and then began attacking them with a butcher knife. No firearms were used in the attack, and university police reportedly had control of the situation in a matter of minutes.
