Tha Alumni's next heavy-hitter is ATL-based singer Verse Simmonds, who has written songs for top artists like Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, and Kanye West. His strength as an artist is his ability to understand both the new and enduring sounds in R&B, and fusing them in a seamless way. It hasn't been surprising to see him thrive in the island-inspired wave that dominated the summer, as Simmonds was raised in St. Thomas and has been a longtime student of reggae and calypso. He showed his mastery of this sound on "In My Feelings," produced by dancehall don Supa Dups, and he's now dropped off yet another Caribbean-flavored steady-winding party jam with his new Alumni labelmate Kid Ink, entitled "Property." This one boasts some added elements of deep house. It's one of those club tracks that soothes as much as it energizes.
"Property" is a standout off Simmonds' new album, To All the Girls, and it arrives after Simmonds guested on two tracks on Ink's latest tape, RSS2, released earlier this month. The sleek and sexy "Property" video, which gives some insight into the song's inspiration, also arrived today.
