OVO producer Nineteen85 and singer Daniel Daley make up the duo dvsn. During Nineteen85's guest mix on the latest episode of OVO Sound Radio, he shared a new dvsn track called "Dear Summer Sixteen," the duo's first new song since putting out their debut album, Sept. 5th, in March. Aside from their original work, dvsn is also known for their ability to envision inventive remixes. A past OVO Sound Radio episode included dvsn reworks of two classic tracks, Aaliyah's "One in a Million" and Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On." This weekend, Nineteen85 used his on-air set to drop a remix of a more recent R&B song, Frank Ocean's "Godspeed," one of the more popular tracks off his new album, Blonde.
Nineteen85 builds a euphoric and lightly dancey beat around Ocean's impassioned singing without losing the intimate, lullaby-esque feel of the original song. Daley's contributions are mostly limited to backing vocals, able to add emphasis to particularly stirring moments without taking away the spotlight. Those lamenting the current state of R&B would do well to listen to both dvsn's Sept 5th as well as Frank Ocean's Blonde.
Quotable Lyrics
I let go of my claim on you, it's a free world
You look down on where you came from sometimes
But you'll have this place to call home, always
