Topaz Jones is doing everything right. After releasing a pair of effervescent singles in the past few months in "Tropicana" and "Powerball," he returned this week with "Winona."
Co-produced by Jones and LATE NIGHT EPISODE, the song features the sort of combination of tight flow and loose spirit that Andre 3000 channeled on The Love Below. Indeed, the 23-year-old NYU grad was born of the funk; his father is a successful funk guitarist. "Funk is taking everything psychedelic and futuristic and still embracing the roots of where we come from," Jones explained to Pitchfork this week.
Listen to "Winona" and stay tuned for Jones' album Arcade dropping this month.
Quotable Lyrics
Ugh last night I met a diva at the disco
Grinding to the Clipse with her hips close
Penthouse brought a couple friends with
So we’re listening to Soulja, samba, calypso
