Young Thug dropped off his highly anticipated mixtape-slash-album JEFFERY at Midnight. The album's cover art was revealed shortly before, and you know it stirred up some feelings. This is familiar territory for Thugger, you'll recall his Barter 6 cover caused controversy as well, although it's not quite as risky as Thugger wearing a blue, frilly skirt.
Album artwork aside, the project is already in rotation and a stand-out upon first listen is the track dedicated to "Floyd Mayweather" (although that song title is irrelevant to the content), featuring Gunna and Gucci Mane. The beat is pure fire, and it might be because some of Thugger's best collaborators connected together on it-- Wheezy, TM88, Goose and Thugger himself. It's got the melodic temperament that Thug beats have become known for, with wavering synths, stammering hi-hats and bursts of drums. Take a listen.
Initial impressions of JEFFERY?
UPDATE: A new version of this record has hit 300's YouTube channel, although it's not a remix, but it's not the same version we have on the iTunes release either. We now have a Travis Scott verse mid-song as well as some La Flame ad-libs, extending the length of the song too, obviously. Is it even better now? We're unsure what the deal is here, perhaps they couldn't clear Travis Scott's contribution in time for the iTunes release.
Quotable Lyrics
I'm sellin' purple rain, RIP to Prince
When I was behind the fence they treated me like a prince
So much jewelry on her pussy gettin' tense
1017 the ones you don't wanna diss
And you can never be like 'Wop you little snitch
You make me mad, I have a threesome with your bitch
I'm from costa east Atlanta, yeah the 6
I make one brick turn to two, I know a trick
Don't walk and limp my chopper is my walkin' stick
