Chicago-bred rapper/producer Mari is in the midst of a weekly #MariMondays series in the months leading up to the release of his forthcoming EP. Last week's "Up" was perhaps the series' strongest installment to date. This week, he attempts to top that with self-produced "Paper Run."
On "Paper Run," Mari employs elastic 808s and a comical descending bell line to evoke the sensation that the listener is sitting inside a circus big top. Towards the end, Mari kicks things up a notch and launches into a carnivalesque drum circle.
The song is featured in an online game in which the player must gun down haters who are in pursuit of Mari's hard-earned cash.
Listen, play the game, and follow Mari on SoundCloud.
Quotable Lyrics
Talking about real estate with them gold chains
You would swear that a nigga cook cocaine
But when you drop dope bars and you chop those lines
All that people ask for is "mo', mane"
