Little Star

Listen to some new late-night trap-n-B from NC's Mikey: "Little Star."

Mikey is a North Carolina singer who specializes in a trap-inspired sound. He's impressed with past tracks like "2am" and "Ocean Drive," which was given a remix from K Camp. For the most part, his tracks are either breezy and euphoric or darker and geared toward the late-night. He delves into the latter realm on his latest, "Little Star."

The content of "Little Star" wavers between Mikey's two primary nighttime activities, illicit bedroom encounters and sleepless hours spent in the studio. His flows stay cohesive as he runs through both scenarios. Catchy all the way through, the hook -- from which the song gets its title -- still arrives as a pleasant surprise, beginning with, "Twinkle, twinkle little star, I know you see me shinin'."

The instrumental, which makes use of a melody similar to the one on ScHoolboy Q's "THat Part" before getting immersed in heavy 808s, comes from PJ Beats. If you like the sound of "Little Star," head to Mikey's SoundCloud page for more music.
