Nas has been particularly active as of late. His most notable piece of new music has been the Khaled-hosted "Nas Album Done," which is hopefully a credible track title. Nas is also the executive producer of the recently released indie film "The Land," the soundtrack of which included a collab between him and Erykah Badu, entitled "This Bitter Land." And his on-screen work doesn't end there -- Nas both acts in and executive produces the Netflix series "The Get Down," which airs tomorrow (Aug. 12). Unsurprisingly, "The Get Down" also comes with a soundtrack that includes new material from Nasir Jones.
Nas is a guest artist on "Rule the World (I Came from the City)," a song by British soul musician Michael Kiwanuka. In fact, the song technically features not Nas but Mr. Books, his character in "The Get Down." Though he raps about hard times in The Bronx in 1977, it still sounds like classic content from the legendary Queensbridge emcee.
"The Get Down" soundtrack, which will drop tomorrow in conjunction with the series, also features music from Miguel, Jaden Smith, Raury, Grandmaster Flash, and more.
Quotable Lyrics
The president neglected us, him and 6 masterminds
Six powerful men put New York through some drastic times
The rich and selfish ones feed off the welfare ones
And which borough suffered the worst? Hmm where I'm from, The Bronx
