Janelle Monae called into Ebro's show on Beats 1 Radio, where she not only let him premiere a new record but prefaced it with a short interview. The song is taken from the Netflix series "The Get Down," which will finally hit Netflix on Friday. Ahead of the TV series premiere, we get to hear another song from the soundtrack, the very groovy, '70s-esque "Hum Along & Dance (Gotta Get Down)."
Before Ebro plays the new song, Janelle speaks on how she connected with "The Get Down" director Baz Luhrmann.
"I'm friends with Baz Luhrmann, who is just an incredible visionary and director. I actually met Baz when I was in Sydney, Australia," she says, "He came and surprised me and we formed a relationship, he came backstage, and he said, man we need to do something together. We were gunna do another project earlier but we didn't get the opportunity to do it, and when he started working on "The Get Down" he reached out to me immediately."
If you wanna skip to the music, it starts around the 4:26 mark.
Quotable Lyrics
This might be our last night
The wolves at the door
Her stomach is growling
We all know the score
