Here's a smooth club anthem from a few promising young talents outta The Bay. The lead artist of "Animal" is Berkeley's Marty Grimes, who's currently riding the success of his May collab with Nef the Pharaoh, "On My Way," and is also out on tour with his childhood friend G-Eazy. Today, he's dropped his new single, "Animal," which features Rexx Life Raj as well as YMTK. The two featured artists on "Animal" also collaborated last month on the track "On Ice."
With its anthemic bassline and its smooth sung hook, "Animal" is an R&B-leaning hyphy joint that situates the romantic, sex-driven content of a slow jam into a club scenario -- when the "Animal" inside emerges and is ready to pounce. There are plenty of slick, charismatic raps along the way, and it's a song that should please both males and females alike. DJs would be wise to test it out on the dancefloor this weekend.
"I've known Raj since we were kids in Berkeley playing kickball at Jefferson Elementary School," Marty tells us. "'Animal' is the outcome of good vibes in the studio with good people. Shoutout Drew Banga and YMTK. It's the summertime, and we just wanted to make something to have fun with, with some Bay Area slaps."
Quotable Lyrics
Nicknamed her Becky with the long hair
I'm down to do the things that make em all stare
As long as you ain't trippin', I ain't care
We can dip up out of here
