OG Maco has just shared his Breathe 2 (Part 1) project, and the opening track finds hime teaming up with an unlikely, but ultimately complimentary collaborator, BJ The Chicago Kid. As Maco delves deeper into atmospheric auto-tune experimentation, BJ brings some textured, sweet vocals on the hook, while Maco goes for an impossibly aggressive delivery, making for something that sounds like My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy meets Flockaveli. The first Breathe project was a reference to the death of Eric Garner, an unarmed black man killed by police in 2014, and the second arrives following the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. "Alive" brings the urgency of protest, along with the pain of loss, making for a tense, explosive package that sets the tone for the rest of the project.
Quotable Lyrics:
So alive you need to wrench from me
Take a bullet to the face or something
We the type to act a fool in public
Still shopping, eat the food of puppets
Alive
