The Philly scene is finally starting to bubble, with a slew of young artists purveying a wide range of different sounds. Lil Uzi Vert is one of the guys leading the charge with his decidedly ATL-inspired approach, and an essential force behind his rise has been young producer Maaly Raw, whose credits include "Money Longer," "Canadian Goose," and many more. Maaly has been intent on working with many of the most promising artists in his hometown, and that includes Kur, who's got his name buzzing with his relentless street stylings. Maaly and Kur have already proven to have a potent partnership, with recent collabs like "Back to It," "Uptop! Uptop!," and "Just Like That" -- all released within the past month or so.
Kur's new single, "No Matter What," might be his and Maaly's best collab yet. It shows a wholly different side of Kur's artistry.
Maaly crafts a serene soundscape with synths that sound like a perfect summer day. He then lays down some trappy drums to match the tempo of Kur, who raps quickly but with a delicate singing flow. He raps in his more traditional style on the second verse, but his energy is still much more cooled than usual, and it's proof that his records don't always have to be filled with aggression.
It's about time that these two combined for a full project.
