Atlanta-based rapper Jeff Chery has been making noise with his fresh takes on the trap sound, combining a natural club-ready flow with painful, true-to-life lyrics. One could call him a singing rapper, and he's got an ear for melody, but part of his appeal is the ruggedness of his voice, which doesn't get blunted with his use of auto-tune. After sharing a new lean anthem featuring OJ Da Juiceman, Chery is back with a new solo track, "Family," produced by SM Tracks, who has worked closely with the Haitian Mufasa throughout his come-up.
On "Family," Chery exercises a flow that sounds rather lazy at first but gets increasingly more exhilarating as he ups his energy in sync with the beat and connects on bar after bar, allowing his visions to unfold at a steady pace. He waves the Haitian flag, shouts out Kodak Black, and remembers roaming the streets in a hockey mask. "Family" will appear on Chery's upcoming project, Mufasa's Way, which is sounding mighty promising.
Quotable Lyrics
Remember days, I was in the hood with a hockey mask
Extended clip, infrared on, let's play laser tag
Hustle hard, gotta hustle hard, you n*ggas counterfeit
All my hoes super fine birds, they got the ostrich lips
