Summer Whine

Blacka Da Don drops his first new tune of the summer -- the late-night, dancehall-inspired "Summer Whine."

Toronto artist Blacka Da Don achieved a healthy buzz last year with collabs with Tory Lanez as well as Murda Beatz. He's clearly a household name in his hometown, and he's ready to spread his sound Stateside with his first single of the summer: "Summer Whine." Toronto folks, expect this one to be an essential at this year's Caribana. And any other summer party that will feature Jamaican rum and aggressive whining from the baddest female attendees.

Dancehall has made its way into the wider Toronto hip-hop sound this year, largely thanks to Drake, but Blacka's genre fusion is about as seamless as can be -- he clearly knows the culture and all its charms. "Summer Whine" has a darker sound -- partly thanks to the immersive bass production of Blasian Beats -- than most of the summery dancehall efforts that have been getting airplay. This one's clearly intended for the late-night, when the whining gets especially illicit. Blacka gives "Summer Whine" his smoothest vocal treatment, with plenty of Caribbean inflections that pair naturally with the intoxicating riddim.

This is Blacka's first addition to the summer rotation, but not his last. Just know, he's been working with some serious heavy-hitters in the 6.

Quotable Lyrics

So come put it 'pon me girl
Do the things you wanted with me girl
Take your time, what you need girl
And do it just right for me girl
