Who's Callous

Devin Lee drops an impeccable verse amid screwed-up OutKast interpolations on "Who's Callous."

We've enjoyed getting acquainted with the bold musical visions of Far Rockaway emcee Devin Lee ever since April's "Tax Money." Each song he's dropped since has been different, but the adroit lyricism and raw passion can be relied upon every time. When he finally shares his full-length, it's gonna be a quite a journey. His latest track is called "Who's Callous," and it begins with a chopped & screwed interpolation of the classic hook from OutKast's "Aquemini." But he doesn't just stop after a couple of bars -- instead keeping the same scheme for about a minute.

After that, he cuts off most of the effects and goes on an inspired rampage, busting some of the most blunt and direct flows that we've heard from the usually esoteric emcee. His repertoire continues to expand. The song eventually slows back down into another "Aquemini" riff, and the beat gets increasingly murky. Overall, "Who's Callous" mimics a drug-induced state of mind, as hazy reflections surround a quick burst of stunning clarity.

Tell us if you enjoy "Who's Callous," and make sure to check out the track Lee dropped earlier this month, "Ride Slow."

Quotable Lyrics

Come play with yo life
Catch me on corners with reapers
You see me I'm shakin' the dice
N*ggas is hoes
Too much of Biggie and Gucci
I might come and kick in yo door
