Queens emcee Devin Lee shares smooth, meditative new track: "Ride Slow."

Far Rock's Devin Lee, a compelling new voice in the New York underground, is back with a new track, "Ride Slow," with which he's kicked off his summer-long "SakeShotSUNday" series. With "Ride Slow," he's off to an excellent start, and we might have to pour up a sake shot a day behind schedule to properly enjoy this one. The beat is made of a simple, laid-back loop and a crate-digger's dream of a sample, putting the listener in the classical New York state of mind.

In contrast to the soothing production, Lee's flow is quick and energized, and his imagination lands upon references to movies, comic books, and even Florida rapper Robb Banks. Even as his wordplay takes him through far-out lands and ideas, the central narrative focuses on the hard lessons he's learned in his home streets. It becomes clear that Lee's lyrical exercises are his way of sorting out what's in front of him, and upon recognizing his seamless mode of expression, it becomes an especially meditative listening experience. Things are moving a little more slowly already.

"Ride Slow" is thought to be slated for Lee's upcoming Invasion project. Stay on the lookout for that as well as the next "SakeShotSUNday" drop.

Quotable Lyrics

What's that, laced up in the doobie got me woozy
La-la-la-la-la at the show, pull a groupie
Bruce Lee movie, 5 minutes, and she blew me
Tryna suck the sake out a n*gga
That's how you Robb Banks, I'm tryna stack up all my figures
