Kanye West recently let go visuals for the single "Mercy" off the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music compilation album Cruel Summer.
The video, directed by Nabil Elderkin, was surprisingly sans-Lamborghini Murcielago, the car to which the song refers in the line, "Lamborghini mercy/Your chick, she’s so thirsty."
The video, which was shot in Qatar while Yeezy and friends were shooting a short film to go along with the album, featured a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 rather than the obvious choice of a Murcielago.
Complex spoke to a Lamborghini U.S. rep who commented on why they may have not used a Murcielago: "We can assume that because the Murcielago is sold out, it may be more difficult to locate that particular model. The Gallardo is available at our franchised Lamborghini dealerships."
The video director, Elderkin, explained the Gallardo was all that was available the day of the shoot, "We used that car because it was the only thing available at the time of the shoot," he said before joking, "Can you tell Lambo to let me take one for a day?"
Lamborghini is nonetheless happy with the song, and appreciative of the publicity. "We appreciate the publicity," the spokesperson said. "But more importantly, we hope Kanye has the opportunity to fully experience the exhilarating performance and technical innovations found in all Lamborghinis."
