Vic Mensa is getting ready to release a new mixtape tomorrow called There’s A Lot Going On, but before he does so he’s got one more leak to share with us ahead of time. Hitting Apple’s Beats 1 Radio Thursday night, the Save Money rapper decided to give Ebro the green light to premiere his new song “16 Shots.”
Chopping it up with the Hot 97 host, Vic had the following to say about the new record, “16 Shots is about Laquan McDonald.” “I was inspired to make the song by my time down on the ground floor on the street, when were revolting [protesting] against that shit. This record is like self-defense ya know? To me Laquan McDonald represent Emitt Till, which represents every other name down the line.” – Vic
Listen to the radio rip below, and check back tomorrow for the rest of the mixtape. (Peep tracklist here.)
Quotable Lyrics:
Ready for the war we got our boots strapped
100 deep on Stage Street
Where the troops at?
The mayor lying saying he didn't see the video footage
And everybody want to know where the truth at
On the South side where it's no trauma centers, but the most trauma
A lot of cannons but you don't want no drama
