Robert Glasper is back again today with another new leak from his forthcoming project. If you're not up to speed, the artist is working on a new album Everything's Beautiful, where he's re-working music from Miles Davis as a tribute to the legendary artist and in conjunction with an upcoming film about him. The album's dropping on Davis' 90th birthday no less. After releasing "Maiysha" with Erykah Badu yesterday, Zane Lowe unleashed the premiere of another collaboration with J. Dilla's younger brother, Illa J.
As Glasper tells Zane prior to premiering the song, "It reminded me so much of Dilla. This was a Dilla-esque beat, and with the 'they can't hold me down thing' it just reminded me of Dilla, so I was like, 'yo, let me get my man Illa J, which is Dilla's little brother.'" And voila.
Take a listen to the collaboration. The album drops May 27th.
Quotable Lyrics
They can't hold me down, it's no gravity in my universe
Those rules don't exist me
You don't believe me, you could search
Feeling bittersweet now it's cavities in your tooth it hurts
